NFL Rookies With Records

Here are four  2014-drafted NFL players who have had run-ins with the law.  Let’s hope they have a long, law-abiding sports career!

Sammy Watkins

NFL Team: Buffalo Bills
College Team: Clemson
Position: Wide Receiver
Draft Year: 2014
Age: 21

Sammy was drafted this year in the first round!  However, he could have been drafted much later and had no trouble remaining mellow.  Watkins has a liking for both ganja and psychostimulant drugs.  In 2012, he was arrested by Clemson campus police for possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance (he had both Vyvanse and Adderall on him).  After completing pre-trial intervention, the charges have been expunged from his record

Johnny Manziel

NFL Team:  Cleveland Browns
College Team:  Texas A&M
Position:  Quarterback
Draft Year:  2014
Age:  21

2012 was a big year for Johnny Manziel, also known as Johnny Football.  He was named starting quarterback for Texas A&M, he won the Heisman Trophy, and he faced his first arrest.  In June of 2012, nineteen-year old Manziel was charged with three misdemeanors – disorderly conduct, failure to identify, and possession of a fictitious driver’s license.  The fight that lead to the arrest started late one night in College Station, Texas and ended in the Police Station!  Johnny was walking with a friend who shouted a racial slur to a man on the street. The man became angry and tried to confront Johnny’s friend.  Johnny stepped between the two shouting men, and eventually, the 210-pounder became involved in a physical altercation.  When police showed up, Manziel showed a fake Louisiana driver’s license.  In 2012, Manziel pleaded guilty to failure to identify and the other two charges were dropped.

Ka’Deem Carey
NFL Team:  Chicago Bears
College Team: Arizona
Position: Running Back
Draft Year: 2014
Age: 21

Before being drafted to Da Bears, Ka’Deem Carey already knew what it was like to wear orange.  In 2013, he was arrested for misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct related to a domestic violence incident with his pregnant ex-girlfriend.  The charges were eventually dropped.

Jeremy Hill
NFL Team: Cincinnati Bengals
College Team: LSU
Position: Running Back
Draft Year: 2014
Age: 21

Now that Jeremy Hill is a NFL player for the Bengals, he’d better watch what he is doing while people are filming.  In July 2014, a fellow bar-goer filmed him punching a man.  He was charged with misdemeanor battery and sentenced to community service.  He also had to pay the medical expenses of the victim, which he could well afford, as he stands to make $3.8 million over the next four years with the Bengals.
